![]() Beginning with his November 13, 1926, Met debut as Kother in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and concluding with the 1966 Gala Farewell to the old Metropolitan Opera house, George Cehanovsky sang an astounding 2394 performances for the company. Among the many highlights of his long career at the Met were the United States premieres of Puccini's Turandot, Krenek's Jonny Spielt Auf, Pizzetti's Fra Gherardo, Rimsky-Korsakov's Sadko, Mussorgsky's The Fair at Sorochintsy, and the world premieres of Deems Taylor's The King’s Henchman and Peter Ibbetson Howard Hanson's Merry Mount, Walter Damrosch's The Man Without a Country, and Vanessa. |
